Dream, 22nd April, Ali

WHEN I DREAM I AM AWAKE…

On waking I discovered I was feeding a tiny featherless, furless creature. It was so small – like a fledgling bird – so delicate and frail and bony. It had thin, translucent pink flesh, wrinkly like a premature baby that hadn’t quite grown into its own skin.

Its beaky mouth had rows of little razor-sharp white teeth. With its mouth hungrily wide open, waiting for a morsel, I tentatively held between my fingers a seed trying to avoid being bitten. It carefully snapped it out of my hand and immediately demanded another. I shakily offered a second bite…then I woke up…again?
